What brings people here

Whatever you are carrying, you do not have to carry it alone.

I work best with individuals who like to laugh and are open to identifying both their strengths and their personal challenges. Most of the people I see are somewhere in the middle of one of these.

Trauma

Experiences that changed how safe the world feels, whether they happened once or over many years. We go slowly, and we go at a pace your nervous system can tolerate.

Depression

The flatness, the heaviness, the mornings that feel impossible. We look at what the depression is protecting you from, and at what might make room for something else.

Anxiety

Worry that will not switch off, dread without an obvious cause, the constant scanning for what could go wrong. We learn what your anxiety is trying to tell you.

Relationship problems

The patterns that keep repeating with partners, family, and friends. Often the way we learned to connect early on is still running the show.

Self-acceptance

The exhausting work of being at war with yourself. Therapy can be the place where you finally stop auditioning for your own approval.

Meaning and spirituality

I respect all dimensions of who you are, including matters of spirit and faith. Bring them in if they matter to you, or leave them out. Both are entirely welcome.

My approach

Depth, tailored to you.

I often lean toward psychodynamic ways of working, with deep sensitivity to inner complexity and to your particular circumstances. That means we are curious about the whole story, not only the symptom that brought you in.

From there I tailor the work to each individual, drawing on whatever will genuinely serve what you are trying to accomplish.

Methods I draw from

  • Psychodynamic
  • Person-centered
  • Strength-based
  • Solution-focused
  • Cognitive behavioral
  • Transpersonal
  • Psychoeducational

No single method fits every person. What matters is the one that fits you, in the season of life you are actually in.

Our first session

What the beginning looks like.

The first meeting is not a test, and there is nothing you need to prepare. Come as you are, and we will start wherever feels natural to you.

  1. I listen, closely

You tell me what brought you here, in whatever order it comes out. I listen deeply to your concerns rather than rushing to a conclusion.

  2. We gather the picture together

I collect the background that helps me understand your situation: history, relationships, what you have already tried, what has helped and what has not.

  3. We build a plan that feels right to you

We then use that understanding to develop a treatment plan collaboratively. My foremost goal is to align with the goals you bring to the table.

  4. We create a space that holds

Together we make a safe place for you to begin your journey toward healing. Everything after that unfolds at a pace you set.

What it feels like in the room

Gentle, unhurried, and never pushy.

Patients tell me I have a very gentle and kind demeanor. I always attempt to match my client’s mood and demeanor so as to join them, and to help them feel less alone in whatever they are facing. I believe good therapy rests on a good relationship, and I am not reluctant to share my own life experience when it is genuinely relevant to the problem in front of us.

Taking the first step is often the hardest part.

If any of this resonates, reach out. There is no obligation in asking a question, and I will respond personally.
